Waterproof shoes may seem like a niche market, but we could always use some really sturdy footwear when we're galavanting on the beach or on a boat. Not all water shoes are the ones you had to wear at summer camp. We scoured the web for some fashion-forward shoes that will keep your feet safe while also maintaining that summer style you worked hard to perfect.

Sea Star Beachwear Beachcomber Espadrille, $85 from Zappos: This water shoe/espadrille combo takes all the things you appreciate about a water shoe (quick drying, sturdy, breathable) and pairs it with the stylings of a shoe you'd wear outside of the beach. They're stretchy and have a non-skid rubber boat shoe sole so you can wear them on the beach, boardwalk, or even under the waves without worrying about slipping.

Native Shoes Jefferson Sneaker, $20-$62 on Amazon: Injected molded EVA gives this "sneaker" its waterproof capabilities. The slip-on construction means there's no worrying about tying wet laces and the cutouts give you breathability and quick-drying abilities. Plus, they come in a multitude of colors and patterns to fit your mood.

Women's Kilchis Sneaker, $70 from Under Armour: The highly breathable textile upper paired with the contoured footbed is designed for maximum drainage and means these sneakers are water's worst enemy. Pair these with a pair of shorts and hit the town because they'll take you from beach to boardwalk without much thought.

Cityscape Sneakers, $129 from Vessi Footwear: These sneakers may not be made for the surf, but they're great to wear while strolling down the shore. The knit construction keeps them lightweight and the entire shoe is 100% vegan.

Donna Gorman, board governor and owner of SeeDesign, Inc., has conceived of, and curated, "Shoes," an extensive exhibition of men's, women's and children's shoes at the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society.

The exhibit opens Tuesday, June 4, and runs through Saturday Sept. 21, in the society's Bishop Gallery.

Drawn from the museum's 400 pairs of shoes, Gorman selected 200 based on a number of factors, including age, condition, originality and function. Visitors will see early galoshes, sneakers, beaded heels, dancing shoes, furry sleigh boots and more.

Ashe County senior stopped from walking at graduation, because of her shoes - FOX 46 Charlotte

-

An Ashe County mother reached out to Fox46 Charlotte saying her daughter was not allowed to walk across the stage at her high school graduation because she says her previously approved shoes were not acceptable. Now the family wants to take action against the school.

"Something was taken from my daughter that she worked 13 years for," said Dixon. "It can't be replaced. It can't be re-created."

Graduation at Ashe County High School was held on Friday. Her daughter wore a white shirt, black pants, and black converse. Dixon shared a YouTube video detailing what happened and showing the forbidden shoes. She says the shoes were previously approved by a guidance counselor at Ashe County High School but thirty-five minutes before the ceremony started, a staffer told her daughter tennis shoes were not allowed.

"Because my daughter is different and doesn't fit the cookie-cutter southern belt bible mold!"

The petition "what's shoes got to do with it" has hundreds of supporters and grows by the minute.

"And I do feel like my daughter was discriminated against. Not because of the shoes she wore, because kids wore worse shoes than what she did. But it was the only thing they could use against her to stop her."

The mother said she is filing a complaint with the school on Monday and getting a lawyer.

Fox46 Charlotte reached out to the school for a comment, but the school is closed over the weekend.
