Jessica Sutta's "Let It Be Love" feat. Rico Love - Single Review

Prepare for the return of an underrated Pussycat Doll!

Jessica Sutta, one-sixth, then eventually one-fifth, of American superpop girl group The Pussycat Dolls played a minor role in the act's eventual domination, but her potential star power was never in question. Once the group disbanded in early 2010, Sutta immediately set her sights on conquering the dance chart. Which she did!

"Show Me", her first official solo single, topped Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs, becoming the first former Pussycat Doll member to accomplish this feat. Two of her collaborations with Dave Aude also peaked atop of the chart, and her "White Lies" collaboration with Paul van Dyk is a favorite among dance enthusiasts. Seriously, it's good.

Sutta followed "Show Me" with two more decent singles, "Again" and "Lights Out", but unfortunately experienced a small step back with the release of "Candy", a track too sugary to be taken seriously. It will be interesting to see if the tracks will be featured on the artist's upcoming debut album, Feline Resurrection, which appears to have found its way back on the right path after a few delays. The anticipated project is now supported by new single, "Let It Be Love" featuring Rico Love which premiered today on PopCrush.

The new effort is not the uptempo dance/pop tune one may have expected to hear from Sutta. Instead, "Let It Be Love" is a ballad-esque release which highlights the artist's beautiful and delicate vocals as she lets listeners in during a vulnerable time in her life. The commendable vocal performance is heightened by eerie production that remains controlled and appropriate, never overpowering Sutta's moment in the spotlight.

"Someone's knocking at the door right now, dear God, please let it be love," the artist seductively croons on the track's hook, which carries more of an R&B/urban vibe than the loud, dancefloor anthems we've heard in the past. While it may not make you want to get up and dance the night away, the new single will definitely cause you to stop and ponder what you might want most it life. It's powerful in a new way for Sutta.

While "Let It Be Love" is a nice change in pace for the artist, it doesn't come without a few problems. The added background "let it be love"'s are distracting and the additional verse from Rico Love does not carry any weight, it sounds as if it could have been left off and the track would have been stronger. This is a release that shines on Sutta, so let's do everything possible to make sure who we are rooting for.

Feline Resurrection is coming this year. Is "Let It Be Love" a strong enough new lead single?
