If popularity was measured by Twitter mentions, BTS would definitely win "Most Liked." Oh wait, it kind of is and they totally did. Twitter revealed their data for the year (rightly named "Year on Twitter 2017"), and there were a lot of surprising names that popped up. The amount of tweets about BTS prove that the Korean boy band has a bigger fan base than some other huge musicians, like, Harry Styles and Justin Bieber.
Twitter unloaded their data from 2017 which included information detailing the most-tweeted about celebrities, songs most frequently hashtagged, and so much more from tons of different fields. When it came to music, the K-Pop group reigned globally as the most tweeted about celebrity. Yes, there are seven members, but for the purpose of this list think of BTS as one unit.
The top 10 list from Twitter is:
- BTS
- SVT (K-Pop band)
- Camila Cabello
- Justin Bieber
- Maine Mendoza (Filipino actress)
- Niall Horan
- Harry Styles
- Ethan Dolan
- Grayson Dolan
- Monsta X (K-Pop boy band)
2017 was truly the year of K-Pop — globally and locally. BTS not only topped the international chart, but they also slid in the first spot for the most tweeted about musician in the United States. The U.S. list ranks:
- BTS
- Harry Styles
- Niall Horan
- Justin Bieber
- Nicki Minaj
- Chance the Rapper
- Fifth Harmony
- Shawn Mendes
- Rihanna
- Ariana Grande
The rest of the list seems pretty predictable. Honestly, Justin Bieber sparking things up with Selena Gomez probably bumped him up a few spots on the list. Actually, I'm a little surprised Gomez didn't make the top 10 — V suspicious.
Also, please note that Fifth Harmony secured the seventh spot, but that does not include Camila Cabello. After Cabello's abrupt exit from the group earlier this year, that has to be a little awkward. On the other hand, BTS seems stronger than ever.
BTS made a huge impact at this year's Billboard Music Awards. The group got a lot of attention when they beat out Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes for top social artist during the show. The BBMA is usually a relatively normal and uneventful awards show, but this year, according to Teen Vogue, it ranked as "one of the top three most tweeted-about global televised events of the year." This is a pretty huge accomplishment the band helped the awards show achieve.
BTS, aka the Bangtan Boys, is made up of seven members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They've been big in South Korea since 2012. Now, they have obviously made it in the United States, too.
So what makes these guys so popular? Honestly, they just make some damn good bops. One of their most popular songs "DNA" is actually super romantic.
The English translation of "DNA" reads:
Now mix that with their amazing synchronized dancing that gives me all the nostalgic boy band feels:

ibighit on YouTubeThat's the charm of BTS. You're welcome. If you're new to the K-Pop world, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the selection of music. As for BTS, I think we're going to see even bigger things soon.
